What is the M3 Study?
The M3 Study will test a new type of care that has been specifically designed for young adults (aged 16 – 45 years) with type 2 diabetes, focussing on the things that matter most to them, and making sure that their care is tailored to their needs.
Further information about the study and why it is important:
Type 2 diabetes is becoming more common, and adults are getting it at younger ages. This is called ‘early-onset adult type 2 diabetes’. This is worrying because heart, kidney, and other problems related to diabetes can happen at an earlier age.
People might also find it more difficult to do every-day activities that are important to them, feel more anxious or depressed, and may need to use healthcare services more often.
Healthcare for younger adults with diabetes is currently based on what works for people who are much older. This is because more research is required on the needs of younger people.
Taking part in this clinical study may improve future treatment options for young adults living with type 2 diabetes.
You may be able to take part if:
You are between 16 – 45 years of age
You are currently living with type 2 diabetes
You were diagnosed with type 2 diabetes before your 40th birthday
What to expect if you join the study:
We are doing this study to test a new type of care that has been specifically designed for young adults with type 2 diabetes.
If you are eligible and join the study, you will either receive the new type of care (M3), or will continue to receive your usual standard care. We use a special computer system to decide which treatment you get. Your chance of getting the M3 care or usual standard care is the same, but neither you, nor the research team, can pick this for you.
For both treatment groups, the study will last for 2 years and will require 4-6 clinic visits. The visits will be with the study doctor or study staff and you will have blood samples taken at some of the clinic visits along with some questionnaires and other health assessments.
Participation in the study is voluntary. If you decide to take part, you are free to change your mind at any point without giving a reason and without your on-going care being affected. If you have any further questions about the study and what it involves, please get in contact with us using the details at the bottom of the page
